In the past few weeks, several topics have come up in our Early Years program that have given us the opportunity to have some thoughtful discussions…
One child commented “I have a boy water bottle”
(The bottle had a Pokemon design printed on it)
Educator “I wonder why it is a boy water bottle?”
The child responded “Because it’s Pikachu”
The Educator asks the group “Do only boys like Pikachu?”
A girl comments “I like Pikachu”
The Educator asked the children “I wonder if boys and girls have different water bottles?”
Some of the children said ‘Yes” and some said “No”
The Educator commented “I wonder what a girl water bottle looks like?”
A child comments “It’s pink”
Another child comments
“It has flowers”
Another child comments
“My brother likes flowers”

Along with Educators sharing their wonderings and asking questions the children develop an open mind, listen to Peers perspectives and think critically to form their own opinions.
