Project Ideas: Stick Man

We read the book ‘Stick Man’ by Julia Donaldson.

In the story, Stick Man lives in the ‘Family tree’ with his family. One day while out for a walk Stick Man discovers that people and animals in the community do not realize he is a ‘Stick Man’ thinking instead that he is a regular stick. He gets used for a variety of purposes and just wants to return to his ‘family tree’.

The children were invited to create their own ‘stick person’ and tell a story including where their stick person lived, who was in the family, where the stick person liked to go and what adventures they would have.

Educators then wrote down the children’s words and attached a photo of their stick person.

This project led to creations of other ‘Nature people’ such as ‘Acorn man’ and ‘Leaf man’. Another related book title is ‘Leaf Man’ by Lois Ehlert.
